    Six Organs of Admittance

In preparing for the first album of non-Hexadic Six Organs of Admittance music since 2012's Ascent, Ben Chasny had a think about what he'd be saying in his own tongue for the first time in a half-decade. As ever, a head-full of ideas were driving him to think and speak music as a spirituality superimposed onto a reality, with the ghosts of both whispering at each other. In the end, what sits in our listening ears is the sound of communion. Burning The Threshold brings a wealth of Six Organs-styled lightness into one of his sweetest musical meditations yet.

Alvarius B. [Alan Bishop of Sun City Girls]

Alan Bishop (aka Alvarius B.) is a founding member of Arizona's avant-garde and genre-defying SUN CITY GIRLS, whose career spans 27 years and over 50 releases. His work in Sun City Girls, with Richard Bishop and Charles Gocher, alone stands as a testament to his fearless exploration of the outer reaches of improvisation and composition. From their telepathic free jazz/post rock psychedelic trio roots, to sprawling radio broadcasts incorporating noise, Italian pop, and sound collage, to gorgeous outer-national Arabic and Asian-inspired folk music, the group maintained their singular and uncompromising path from inception. And as Alvarius B., Bishop has penned hundreds of his own original folk songs in a primitive "out" style that is unlike anything that anyone else is doing now. This body of work is informed by an obsessive love of psychedelic rock, free jazz, exotic music from beyond borders, Italian film soundtracks, and an extraordinary sense of humor. Ripe

Ripe is seven musical soulmates who refuse to believe in a single definition of dance music. They are an unstoppable groove, an extended moment of ecstatic release, the catalyst for taking “just another night” and elevating it into something else entirely. They are the swagger of funk filtered through a rock anthem, a musical journey that somehow gets as stuck in your head as your favorite pop banger. They are the anchors of a rapidly growing community, a series of new friends becoming good friends becoming part of the extended family as their sound spreads and their world deepens. They are here to look at joy with the same depth as most people look at sadness, to find a happiness that is heavier and more meaningful than simply a distraction from the negative. Born all over, formed in Boston, Ripe is ready to bring the whole world to its feet. Local Support from Banana Gun

    Mainland

Equally influenced by vinyl collections that range from Springsteen to Cold War Kids and the works of poets such as Lou Reed and William S. Burroughs, Mainland finds elegance in simplicity. Throughout their music, shuddering piano and loose guitar augment bare bones pop hooks. It’s a style that’s been carefully refined to perfection over the years and especially so since the boys traded New York City (the place of their meeting) for California (where all three respectively call home). With Rad Horror and The Ricky Fitts

    King Tuff

When asked to describe the title track from his new record, Kyle Thomas—aka King Tuff—takes a deep breath. “It’s a song about hitting rock bottom,” he says. “I didn't even know what I wanted to do anymore, but I still had this urge—this feeling—like there was this possibility of something else I could be doing… and then I just followed that possibility. To me, that’s what songwriting, and art in general, is about. You’re chasing something, there is something out there calling to you and you’re trying to get at it. ‘The Other’ is basically where songs come from, it’s the hidden world, it’s the mystery. It’s the invisible hand that guides you whenever you make something. It’s the thing I had to rediscover—the sort of voice I had to follow—to bring me back to making music again in a way that felt true and good.” Tour Support from Cut Worms

On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation, and the music is all the more alluring for it. with Wished Bone and Gabi

    Post Animal

Chicago-based Post Animal are a band of brothers. Though they formed in 2014 and just began touring in 2017, their affinity for slick riffs, pop hooks, and psychedelic tendencies join them in a bond much tighter than their years suggest. Initially formed when childhood friends, bassist Dalton Allison and guitarist Matt Williams, met keyboardist and guitarist Jake Hirshland, the band’s sound began to take shape when the three enlisted some more pals from both the Chicago music scene and through their time working at local burger joints. Rounding out the band’s lineup, Post Animal is completed by drummer Wesley Toledo and guitarists Javi Reyes and Joe Keery.
