One of the newer music venues in the Valley of the Sun, The Compound was founded by the same people who created the McDowell Music Festival. The Compound Grill is a modern regional music hall that is attracting people of all ages to come enjoy live entertainment and music of all genres across Phoenix, AZ. With music as our calling to the public, we also provide our audiences with an array of healthy, organic food on the menu that satisfies anyone’s appetite. The Southwest fresh menu is full of locally bought ingredients and is served farm to table in support of our local businesses.     BoomBox + Ill-Esha + Chris B.

    BoomBox consists of two versatile producers, DJs, songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and longtime friends Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux. Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage Rock and Blues made to move dance floors while incorporating their signature Backbeat, Psychedelia and Funky House sounds. Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to Godchaux and Randolph’s overall vision. Derived from the rich musical history of Muscle Shoals, AL, to the psychedelic rock and underground electronic scenes of the west coast, their unique approach can only be achieved by the blending of sound and culture.

    John Lee Hooker Jr.

    John Lee Hooker Jr. was born in Detroit "Motor" City with Delta blues-filled blood running through his Motown veins. As the son of the great John Lee Hooker, he was exposed to the life of the blues from a young age. At only eight years old Jr. performed on Detroit's WJBK radio and knew from that moment that he wanted to follow the path of his father and become a world-class musician. Touring alongside Hooker, Sr. throughout his teens, Jr. had already performed in prestigious venues such as Detroit's Fox Theatre with acclaimed musicians like Jimmy Reed by the time he was 16. In 1972, an eighteen year-old John Jr. was singing vocals alongside his father for the recording of Hooker, Sr.'s album Live at Soledad Prison (ABC Records).

    Rootz Underground

    Rootz Underground represents Jamaica’s most recent contribution to the International Reggae & World Music scene. Electric yet organic, gritty and soulful; the band manages to harness the essence that the reggae aficionado was captivated by in the 1970’s while connecting the youth to the pure messages of Rastafari with explosive live performances that are a positive and emotional musical journey.

    McDowell Mountain Music Festival 2012

    Galactic, Keller Williams w/ Del McCoury Band, Ozomatli, Dark Star Orchestra, Anders Osborne, Trevor Hall, Bob Schneider Band, EOTO, Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Motet. The Festival took off in April of 2004 as an endeavor to bring real music back to Arizona while getting the community together for a great cause: our children. Each year, the festival brings together a number of bands from a wide variety of genres from all over the world to Arizona. The Festival takes place on the last weekend of April every spring. If you have never been to a music festival, come to ours. Experience the spirit that is cultivated when people join together and have a good time. Bring your kids. Make some friends. There is a silent auction/raffle, marketplace, drum circle, acoustic stage, Kid’s Zone and more. Be a part of helping to give back to the community – all proceeds, yes 100%, raised from the Festival are donated to two charities – Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Ear Candy.
