How many local bands can lay claim to opening for so many legendary bands such as the mighty Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd. and T.S.O.L.?! Well, The Father Figures continue to roll along and continue to deliver absolutely potent, precise, intense, surf-informed post punk. This trio originally was not even going to be an actual band, the original intent was three friends jamming together over Memorial Weekend back in 2009. Then lead vocalist/bassist Tom Reardon, guitarist/backing vocalist Michael Cornelius and drummer/backing vocalist Robert Lerma decided to play a show to celebrate Michael's birthday. Next they continued to write music, play more shows and all that work culminated in their stunning 2011 debut Lesson Number One. Two years later the band released its sophomore effort All About Everything which was even better. The band released its third album Steps and Processes and an EP entitled U.F.O. in 2014. They have also appeared on multiple compilations and consistently pay homage to other bands with a stunning array of covers of bands as diverse as The Cure, Christian Death, Soylent Green, The Consumers and yes, J.F.A.
Eight years later The Father Figures are set to release their FOURTH album together and what makes this release even more special is it will be their first to also be released on vinyl!!! Heavy Lifting is the name of the album and according to the band "these release shows are important to us, but this one is different: we are releasing this one on vinyl with Slope Records AND this is by far our best collection of songs to date (we'll also have CDs available)." This event is on Friday, April 14th at the Valley Bar and only $5. They'll have four new songs to throw at you along with a couple new t-shirt designs based on the album cover.
The French Girls, a four-piece garage pop band using stripped down chords played at a vivacious pace, will be sharing the night along with a couple of vinyl DJs. The deal is DJs at 8 and the whole show will be over at 11. Yes 11. 21+ show
