Wavves, Kino Kimino and Lenguas Largas

Score: 0

Named for his fear of the ocean, Wavves, the skuzzy project of San Diego slacker Nathan Williams, is a blend of distorted no-fi and refined sunshiny melodies. Charmingly messy, most of his lyrics, while difficult to decipher, generally revolve around the subjects of weed, boredom, and the beach -- when he isn't poking jabs at the gloomy subculture of goth rock.

Kino Kimino, the whimsical quirky brainchild of punk eccentric Kim Talon (with contributions from Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth), is mostly known for sweet-and-sour rock with matching quirky art-student-esque videos. Lenguas Largas is a gloom/psych rock band from Tucson, creating lo-fi minimal tracking that fill their tunes with a graveyard like spooky haze.
